Research

The Project

The British Columbia (BC) Node of the Pathways to Prosperity Partnership (P2P)  belongs to an alliance that includes key federal and provincial migration ministries; municipalities; national, regional, and local organizations; and university researchers.  Our Node is one of five regional nodes and an overarching pan-Canadian hub.  The B.C. Node is interested in local, regional and national research promoting newcomer integration and welcoming communities in cities and towns, including smaller centres.

Over the seven-year course of the project, the main activities will be knowledge generation through primary and secondary research and knowledge transfer utilizing a variety of dissemination methods.  A major priority of the BC Node and the Partnership as a whole is the fostering of welcoming communities that promote the economic, social and civic integration of migrants and minorities.  The Partnership also seeks to help communities grow their economies, renew their populations, and reinvigorate their labour markets by welcoming immigrants, international students and temporary foreign workers.  Two areas of special concern are Northern communities and Francophone minorities outside Quebec.

Our research includes participation in pan-Canadian studies and BC-focused studies, with an emphasis on comparative perspectives and best practices for the development of effective policies and programs.  Our methods combine academic scholarship with local expertise and detailed government program knowledge. This allows us to provide practical, empirically-based advice on policies, programs and agency practices.
